Utopia Music gears up to release these to ultimate bangers from Mikal, entitled Headbanger and The Chant.
Seen on the likes of Metalheadz, SGN:Ltd and Horizons Music, Mikal joins the ranks of Utopia Music with his first release since dropping his EP on Skream’s label Disfigured Dubz.
Starting off with Headbanger, Mikal draws for the slower, darker sounds, drawing on influences from some of Metalheadz older pieces. Tight and aggressive drums alongside old skool fills paves way for the distorted wobbled sounds of the drop. Gliding, wavey sounds teamed with distant pads has this piece bouncing along all the way through.
Next up we’re presented with The Chant, a deep, and relentless track. Chopped, skipping drums breaks up the rhythm with it’s 2-step vibe before dropping a wave of sub bass to join the roster. With the wavey drums and ridiculously heavy bass coming together, this track will make any set take a step into the darker realms of drum & bass. Wicked B-side sounds.
Bristol’s UtopiaMusic drops it’s 7th release with Mute & Mako’s single Cali Sleaze and Always. Starting off with Cali Sleaze, we’re given dark, sharp bass waves alongside tight skipping drumlines that instantly have this track bumping from the drop. On the flip we’re given something a little more experimental in the shape of Always. fast-paced percussion alongside a heavily-weighted bassline and miniscule effects, this track compliments the A-side perfectly, whilst still able to tear up any system its played on.
Andyskopes - Distance From You/Readings From The White Lake (UTOPIA006)
Utopia Music drops their sixth release with the sounds of Andyskopes taking a hold.
First up we have Distance From You featuring the sounds of Coerce. Starting off slow and methodical, the track drops into the sounds of the mid-00s jungle. Bringing with it the dark sub bass and tight bit-crushed snares, the piece can easily take to any dance floor or bedroom by storm. With the soft sytnhs and piano bringing this track effortless in and out of the mix, this piece definitely holds its place as a top roller of the year.
On the flip side, we’re given a warm gliding number with Readings From The White Lake. The piano takes to the stage as the primary instrument before the double bass backs it perfectly to bring us comforting deep lines of warm bass. A track for one of those cold mornings to get you started.
